Tell us how to improve the blogs
Tell us how to improve the blogs As you might have noticed, we made a few changes (perhaps even upgrades) to the blogs this past weekend. Changes were: 3x faster page loads, basic polls, some minor formating changes on the main page, watch blogs/posts with changes since your last visit now show up in yellow, and real-time viewing of posts for and by premium members (beta mode). Our development team had been busy with some site intergrations (fastcupid.com and fastcupid.com but are now back 100% on improving this site. We want your opinions on what you'd like to see in the blogs. For non-blog ideas, please either email me or use the feedback form (yes, we read and compile each email). |

Some ideas I've had or heard (and are prioritizing): - preview button so you can see a post before you post them - ability to edit a post you did on another blog (maybe) - background graphic or color settings (blogs & posts) - audio/video posts - ability to upload photos in each blog post and reply - ability to link to photo2-5 in your profile (coming 3/15) - access to "fans" of blogs (or to see a list of people who say they are the fan of the blog) - show which posts where someone has replied after you - more custom ways to quote someone else - quizes (multiple question polls with 'results') - ways to tag blogs with keywords so people can find them more easily - quick link from main page to your blog (coming this week) - more HTML like commands (such as tables, photo placement) - skin/designs formats you can choose for your blog - turn off the 3 digits needed to post (if you are a super blogger)

- Ability to turn off smilies (or at least smarter system to identify them)

I don't see the need in the polls! Or your popularity list!!!

All the suggestions above would be great. I can add these: - not a fan of the unique responses list, a lot of great male bloggers are buried because of it. - Background changes and more html flexibility would be great. -The most recent comments by others also needs to be updated, sometimes people will post a comment in an old blog and I never know unless I go searching through blogs for new comments. - Also some kind of alert bell when you get a new comment or your post goes through would be great for those times I'm surfing during the wait. Thanks for the changes and the willingness to keep upgrading!

The fact that several 'recent' posts stick for hours and then all of a sudden, a bunch of new posts post hours after the blogger wrote them. Same goes for the comment. Blogs with recent posts get don't have a chance when this happens, at times. Also, a blogger can leave a comment and it won't 'show up' on one blog for several hours and then turn around and post a comment on another blog and it shows up instantly. Faster results on a more regular basis. Some days, it's great...other days, it sucks.

Not that it matters to me anymore since I am deleting my blog and profile in the next couple of days and never coming back but what pissed me most off about the blogs is that members can't blog about what they want. The popularity list has always been a joke to me. Of course the same people will always be the most popular if they are always listed on the front. Why not do it like the pics, instead of the most popular blogs (most commented on or most woted on polls), show a list of a few random blogs on the front page or a link to go to a random blog of the day or something. This is probably my last comment on any blog on here.

The polls that you added are just a gimick, but okay you must have your reason's. I would assume that half of my posts this weekend, which have not showen up, are because of the formating changes that have gone on, so lets hope they do show up, since I took the time to write them! I would like the see the feature added that we can delete or change our posts to another's blog. At times that would be a very usefull tool, since now in several blogs since it took them two days to show up the first time, I reposted and now look like a complete idiot for posting twice, until the blog owner takes one down. The site briefly had a tool bar for posting comments in blogs yesterday afternoon, from what I saw of those features, font, colour, etc that I would like to see added. It lends itself to being creative, which most who use the blogs are, creative people. I'd like to see more tools provided for them to enhance their writings. As well can't you put on the main page somewhere that when an area is "under contruction" like this past weekend with the blogs, the members have some idea as to what is going on. Since the site is used quite heavly by some, we become very aware, very quickly when something is up, it would be nice if you took a moment to inform us that there could be delays, and or lost posts, emails etc. It would save us all alot of frustration, I know off topic but really one that had to be mentioned. NSAAdict: The unique response list was there for 6+ months. We used to have a separate list for male bloggers (as they got buried)... then some guys were creating some great blogs and starting making the list. We could add the "guy table" back jadedbabe78: Yes, premium member posts should appear in real-time starting yesterday (but only when you view someone's blog). I'm also thinking of a way to better "gate" new posts showing up on the main page... it's a trade-off to make things harder for people who might want to abuse the system.

.... not quite the last one.... A feature that can ban certain members from reading your blog would be interesting. If you have blocked someone in chat rooms and from emailing you, chances are you don't want them to read your blogs either. And I always found it annoying that non-members, including children, can access the blogs without logging in

SultryVirgo: great feedback (I did notice 5 posts this weekend from you - all approved)... did you have more? citizen_five: thanks - do you have a suggestion on how we can highlight the "best" blogs other than looking at how many unique people respond to them? Was thinking about using voting or the # of members who put the blog in their watched list (within the last 30 days). There is not a perfect solution - especially as it's harder for men to show up towards the top. leyndokona2 - thanks - reminds me of another request I've heard... ability to edit and unban members that were banned in blogs. Sorry, that the blog code frustrated you - I take full responsibility on it as a primary developer (and CEO of LesbianPersonals). The key part going forward is to better prioritize development based on user feedback. I added the polls as they might be used all over the site (e.g., interest groups and magazine). I do agree that they cater more to the less creative types - but possibly to encourage more participation. We'll see

It would be nice to have an intelligent search facility. Because usernames have strange spellings and the use of underscore dashes etc. it is possible to lose contact, particularly with bloggers who are new to you. Font control is still a bit technical with limited options. A wider range with a friendlier user interface would be helpful. The smilies are very popular, but it would be good to review them. There is no smiley for hug for example, while some smilies are hardly used at all. It would also be good to have click on smilies. I agree with helga hansen that an ability to edit a comment you've placed would be useful. I also know that a lot of bloggers would have left LesbianPersonals if it weren't for the blogging. It is something special and it's good that you are asking us all these questions and are prepared to do something about them.

I think if you keep the popularity rating as it stands now, it needs to be split into WOMEN, MEN and COUPLES/GROUPS. Or, I think doing away with the most popular by comments would be good, expand the "slot machine" to maybe 12 places and have it continue to rotate as it does now. Each time you reload the page new people are there. Being able to edit your comments on other peoples posts would be great. On my most watched list, when I click on a blog it moves to the top of the list. Could that be switched to the bottom? It would make more sense as it would cycle through the list without having to open up to the continuing pages. Have tongue, will use it. Repeatedly.

warmandsexy52 - thanks, a new wysiwyg (what you see is what you get) editor is on it's way... hopefully either this week or on 3/15. SensuallyKatey - yes, perks should be given out to VIPs (both paid members and super bloggers) as they both are very important to this community. I am currently working on a tool that will show you which of your posts have comments *since* the last time you read your post. katsback - I'll get it reviewed... as for the job app, email LesbianPersonals (or did I misunderstand you?)

Luvpump: Thanks for the quick reply! I'd love to have the guys table back, or some sort of change to the list to make it more fair. I also came up with one more wish for you: when a blog gets denied, can you highlight the text that got denied or providing a specific reason as to why it was denied. Right now we just get a message that it was denied and it's left to us to figure out how or what to change which can be very frustrating. Thanks again, NSA

Probably best for me to just post this link to the poll I put up regarding changes: [post 255397] For me, I would most like to be able to post larger accompanying pics with my blog post, perhaps even multiple pics, and to be able to have my blogs upload faster. I would also like to be able to go back and make minor edits in my blog without it delaying the posting of it forever and a day. Regarding comments, I would like to be able to edit a comment I've made....some boards allow one to do so for a limited amount of time, such as 30 minutes, so that one can pick up on the silly grammatical errors and such. I do not necessarily agree that one should be able to delete a comment they've made, however, as that can disrupt the 'flow' of any following 'conversation'. Thank you for your requests for input, feedback, and questions.

p.s. I am actually in town this week....perhaps I should just meet you for lunch and tell you personally how to make the blog section of your site perfect! lol! j/k!!!

I also agree that paid members should have more perks in terms of blogs, than non-paying member. Also (in no particular order) 1. Easier interface for font style 2. Ability to edit comments 3. Ability to preview posts prior to posting 4. Blogs in chronological order by date of posting I have ideas about other things but they are not related to blogs.

I have no intention of doing polls and I read alot of blogs. When I have seen a poll on someone's blog, I just click onto another blog to read. As for feedback, I appreciate someone being willing to put an identity to their comment. That doesn't happen with a poll. I want to know who's thinking what...I care about what someone thinks..who that someone is. Maybe because I am a real, paying person who is not afraid to put my name on my opinion. I find that blogland hosts people who are more real thatn alot of the folks at LesbianPersonals...at least they are willing to speak their minds. The bottom line is that I find the comments to be worth reading and I think that the polls discourage comments. This is important to me or I wouldn't be taking the time to write, respond and blog to begin with........and it IS time consuming..especially when the system is acting up and the posts take forever to post. Blessings, Goddess Just a little food for thought............. If you really want to be happy, nobody can stop you... {=}

One more....and this is way out of left field, yet a good suggestion! On couples profiles, each partner should be able to post blogs/comments as an individual....meaning, still be using the couple ID, however, they would be able to post but with their individual pic and settings (such as colors, secondary name, etc) so that people could tell which of the pair was posting something. Kind of a weird idea maybe....but I just came from reading a blog where it was very difficult to always determine who was posting. That's it!

Just get rid of the polls, you can vote on a post. I have to agree that different backgrounds would rock! Cowboy

Luvpump, this what I left on Sexyfit’s post; Sexy, I got to thinking about this post. If they want to give premium members some blog perks how about listing them in “the list” the way they do when you do a search. Popular gold, popular silver, popular standard. If you are a gold member and are UP there on “the list” and you let your account go standard, you drop down. Maybe limit it to the top 20 gold, 20 silver, 20 standard then do “the list” on the other pages how ever they do them now. I bet that would get a few to remain premium and a few to upgrade. I saw luvpumps comment so I will pop over to his blog and leave this suggestion. After reading travs comment, this would also boost the male popular bloggers...LIKE EXPAT!

As well I agree with some in regards to the "most popular list" it's the same issue I have on the magazine. This is not high school and we are not voting on the prom king or queen. I just really feel that these popularity contests must go, along with the voting in other sections. It can create far too much hostility between the members, and I don't feel there is a need for it. It's far to easy to manipulate from what I've seen. That's just my opinion on it. Sultry
