International Woman's Day 8 March 2014
International Woman's Day 8 March 2014 On a Saturday afternoon of 25 March, 1911--a fire broke out in New York City of the Triangle Shirt Waist Factory. Because of locked fire exits, and insufficient escape routes, people were not able to exit the building. Consequently 123 women and 23 men died from either jumping from the 8th floor, or from asphyxiation. As a consequence of the fire, a shorter work week was legislated--54 hrs/week; legislation prohibiting chained fire exists, and greater unionization effort for the female workers. Not until Governor Nelson Rockefeller was there a requirement for sprinklers in buildings. Francis Perkins--later to be Franklin Roosevelt's Labor Secretary--was instrumental in looking into the fire and suggesting legislation to improve condition for female workers. To me the fire represents why government has to intervene; too many times, business looks to the bottom line with indifference to the basic health needs of its employees. This was true in 1911 and this is true even today in 2014. |

Of course there is intelligent life on LesbianPersonals---just cause I'm naked doesn't mean I have to be stupid... Many thanks for stopping by... what is that profile pic you have? Looks interesting.

Many thanks. Usually on Wednesdays after 11 pm I am half-naked since I sleep wearing only a t-shirt... I used to sleep nude, but as I got older--I felt the cold on my shoulders more... Have a good half-naked-Wednesday this Wednesday and all Wednesdays...

Hi, Steven: Since layoffs started this week in a variety of ways (people are being allowed to apply for their jobs with the outsourced relationship that will now be providing those services) the timing couldn't have been better for this blog. I am living the reality that companies are nothing but people with money-earning agendas, and that we all continue to be very expendable. Thanks for an excellent reminder that it's up to us to take care of each other, through legislation as well as through personal experiences. Happy Sunday! 2Shy

Does that mean Americans have a chance to move to Bangladesh for employment opportunities...? Sad, really. I'm one of the lucky ones that still has a job. They keep throwing the bucks at me, and I'm holding out for a very large bonus due May 21st which should be paid out by July or August. Beyond that? We'll, only time will tell. I'm continuing to challenge myself and my management with tough questions about how to control costs while not sacrificing customer service. And I'm continuing to self-educate by investing in myself for where my passion lies for the fun things I like to do about my job in the hope that I will be put in the right mix of interests-to-skills role once this latest round of reorgs continues. Who knows, maybe Bangladesh could be seen as an upgrade to the craziness that is the American workplace today. Sad but try. Hope you had a happy Easter. Regards, 2Shy

No need to move to Bangladesh, Steven - with the all new "price is the only thing we care about" model for employment - you, too, can be broke and be fully-employed and never have to leave your neighbors or home.
