At exactly 6:50am on the 1st of December the wheels of the transatlantic flight touched down at Dublin Airport.
It was the end of one long amazing journey and supposed to be the beginning of a new one.
Exactly when the journey started is lost in the mists of time, but it was a comment on an Australian blog that first brought there two bloggers to each others notice. Slowly, over time, a few exchanged comments, a few supporting e-mails, the occasional chat and sometimes weeks with no contact, these two bloggers got to know each other better and better until they decided that they would have to meet to see if what they sensed on line would be true in real life.
Now illness and an accident and lack of passport and never having flown before were all obstacles to be overcome for her if she were to fulfill her dream, but still she stepped of that plane that Saturday morning for the 19 days that would cement the relationship...
To say that it had been love at first sight would be incorrect, in truth it had been love long before that. Exactly when it hard to say as he had placed so many barriers around his heart following the breakup of his marriage that she had managed to slip under his radar, yet for her she had spent the previous year telling her family and friends that she had finally met the man she wanted to spend the rest of her life with and was moving to Ireland.
Well the 19 days were like magic, both were happier then they had ever been in their lives. True love and true happiness was shared for those 19 days... many who do not use the internet cannot understand how you can fall in love on line, but then chatting with video for hours every night is like having someone in the room with you, the and friends would say "hello" as they dropped in and out.
It is impossible to capture the joy and happiness and excitement shared, whether visiting archaeological sites, old castle, or monastic sites, or even opening the freezers in the local supermarkets. There was a certain "joie de vivre" about the simplest things in life, and some "je ne sais quoi" in their interactions.... and of course a little learning of Québécois Francais, for he would have to meet her family in Canada some day soon.
Cupid shoots strange arrows sometimes and we have no control of whom we fall in love with, but this was special, everyone who met her knew immediately, she even formed her own special bond with his . They bought and exchanged commitment rings (see how perfect, they both took the same ring size), the world was turned upside down, all they needed was each other, nothing else mattered, no obstacle was too big not to be overcome, no obstacle? Nothing mattered except that they be together.
When the 19 days were over, they bid farewell, but only for a short time, she was returning to Canada to sort out a few things and return to Ireland, winters in Florida sun, spring and autumn in Canada and and Irish summer were the long term plans... her family and friends were completely behind her, they could see a happiness that, it seems, she had never experienced before in her life, as could his family, friends and his .
Safely home and Christmas and New Year over, she set about making the arrangements, which of course were more difficult than it seemed on the surface, but there would be a way to make everything happen. They last spoke on 17th January, would it be the end of February or the start of March, it was to matter little. The next day the phone went unanswered, the text messages went to delivery "pending" and a call to her resulted in her being found dead on the couch, still dressed in the clothes that she had worn on her monthly trip to the doctors the day before. Dead was sudden, or instant and painless - and so passed from this world a former blogger at the tender age of 52

This blog used to be about the bad things in my life, living and separating from my alcoholic wife and all the other curved balls that life throws..... as time progressed the blog became more upbeat until Februus had purged all the badness from my life.
I must confess that with all my family and friends I never imagined I would be here again... yet... and yet....
Before you slip into unconsciousness I'd like to have another kiss Another flashing chance at bliss Another kiss, another kiss
The days are bright and filled with pain Enclose me in your gentle rain The time you ran was too insane We'll meet again, we'll meet again Crystal Ship - Jim Morrison and The Doors.
... a crueler twist of fate remained ahead - one that will be explained elsewhere.
